AudioBuy Reviews
Housed in a single rack space unit, the Eventide Eclipse harmonizer studio effects processor is as compact as can be without skimping on Eventide effects or audio performance. Ideal for project and professional studios alike, this slim FX box provides over 100 algorithms, more than 500 ready-to-use presets (via the version 4 software release), 24-bit digital conversion, 96 kHz sampling, and a really handy dual routing design that lets you use the Eclipse as 2 independent effects processors. You can configure the ins and outs of each of the effects blocks for either stereo or mono operation, or you can select a preset that combines two algorithms for really big multi-effects. When you buy the Eclipse, it's like you're getting two units for the price of one.

Eventide Effects for Every Need You could lose a lot of hours playing through all the effects available on the Eclipse. From reverb to delay to seamless pitch shifting, this compact processor covers it all. The reverb section alone includes 11 reverberation algorithms and 4 complex algorithms, and all reverbs are true stereo in and out instead of mono in, stereo out. Especially useful for sound design work, the Eclipse also features an impressive selection of delays, including band delays, chorus delays, comb delays, ducked delays, ring delays, and pan delays.

Not Enough Presets? Design Your Own In the off chance that the Eclipse's 511 awesome presets just aren't doing it for you, you can design your own presets to better suit your needs. To do that, you simply load one or two algorithms, select a routing, assign the Hot Keys, and edit away until you've got a preset to call your own.

A Flash card slot enables you to store your presets on a compact Flash card, for easy transfer of presets from one Eclipse unit to another.

Calling All Loopers Like looping? The Eclipse offers 20 seconds of memory per effects block, allowing you to get your loop on in one of four ways: a 20-second mono loop, 10-second dual loop, 20-second reverse loop, and a 10-second dual reverse loop. Best of all, since the Eclipse has two effects blocks, you can run your loops on one block while working with additional effects on the other block. Add some extra dimension to your sound!

No Learning Curve -- Turn It On and Play It won't take long to get familiar with the Eclipse's layout, as all your controls and parameters are placed on the front panel, right where you want them. The bright display is easy to view, a knob and keypad simplify setup and preset operation, and convenient Hot Keys provide instant access to the eight most important parameters on every preset. Make the Eclipse work for you by customizing the Hot Keys on any preset to create your own personalized program.

Not just for delays, a dedicated tap button also serves as the frequency rate of the LFO modulating your sample and hold filter, or the speed of your auto-panner or tremolo. You can set the Tap function to average out from 2 to 12 taps.

Lots of I/O On the rear panel, the effects processor sports AES/EBU, S/PDIF, and ADAT Lightpipe for digital applications, plus balanced XLR-type and TRS 1/4-inch inputs and outputs, which conveniently accept a high-impedance instrument signal. What's more, the Eclipse has Word Clock I/O on BNC connectors, two pedal ports for guitar pedals, full MIDI I/O, and an external power jack. Rounding out the ins and outs is a serial port for easy updating of the Eclipse's software from the internet. When it's time to get that latest software update, you won't have to open up the Eclipse and swap out a chip.
